The Guide provides managers, contractors and labourers with practical tips on staying safe.
In order to minimise the risk of injury and the rates of suicide amongst builders and construction workers, Pro-Visual Publishing is encouraging the Queensland construction industry to look after their physical and mental health with the Construction Industry Guide to Site Safety for Queensland. The safety guide, which will be distributed free of charge in the coming weeks, looks at the key results of a recent survey which found builders and construction workers in Queensland have poorer levels of health than their counterparts in other industries.

Also examined in the Guide, is the link between physical health and mental health, with workers in the construction industry 39 per cent more likely to die by suicide when compared with the Australian working age male population as a whole. The Master Builders Association of Queensland believes the Guide is an invaluable
resource for the construction industry throughout Queensland as it continues to build awareness of risk assessment and OH&S procedures.

“The Construction Industry Guide to Site Safety is a useful safety resource that can be displayed on sites and in offices”, said Sean King, manager, Workplace Health and Safety, Master Builders Association Queensland. “The Guide provides managers, contractors and labourers with practical tips on staying safe, as well as current industry
legislation updates in an easily understood and accessible format.”

As well as providing tips for workers on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and information on where to get help for mental health issues, the Guide also provides information on the key changes in the Workplace Healthy and Safety Regulations 2008. This includes the stricter licensing requirements for people operating earthmoving
equipment and certain types of cranes, and a new scaffolding code.

The Guide also provides information on UV exposure and skin cancer and how to minimise the risk. The Guide is directed to all commercial construction companies in Queensland and to members of the Master Builders Association of Queensland.
